Large Scale Art on the Cheap

Hi there!

Recently we shared a sneak peek of our living room, in this post, as you saw it is not quite done, but getting there.  Did you notice the antique tin ceiling art pieces to the left of the tv, in this photo?

We have had them for a little while, though they have never been hung together.

Ian picked up both tins at a re-use it shop several years back for $12.50 a piece.  You can still find them at flea markets and antique shops for $10-$20 a piece, and they make really great and inexpensive art pieces.  We especially love the ones with chippy paint.

Ian mounted ours on some really simple frames he made from 2"x2" lumber.  This helped to straighten out the pieces and give us something to hang them from.  I made a quick diagram to give you an idea of the frame that he created.

Since you can see the framing if you are looking at the tins from the side, he painted them a green colour that coordinates with our home.

Here is a straight on view of the tiles, aren't they great!

Thank you for visiting today!
Ian and Laura
