Easy Planked Sign

Hi there!

We wanted to share a super easy sign that we created for our family room with you.  We forget to snap some photos of the actual building part of this project, however it is super simple.  We did create a quick diagram for you, though.

We had some planks left over from our two ceiling jobs, but you could easily grab a couple of planks for this project.  Ian pretty must guestimated ( that's a word, right?) on the size for our finished piece. He cut 4 sections and screwed them together from the back using two scrap pieces running perpendicular to the main planks as braces.  As shown in the diagram below.

The piece measures approximately 18' x 3' .

Next we gave the piece a coat of stain, we just used some leftover we had lying around.  It is a nice rich and dark colour.

Once the stain was dry (we waited about 24 hours) we gave it a coat of paint using a dry brush technique with some left over paint from our front door.

The last step was die cutting the text.  This was cut from adhesive vinyl using a Silhouette die cuting machine.

Here is a little look at it as it hangs on a long, long wall in our family.  This grouping barely takes up any wall space, so we will definitely be adding to this collage as we find or create more pieces!

Thanks for visiting!
Ian and Laura
